Code Check Author Skip Walker talks about Photoelectric Smoke Alarms

• Ionization alarms respond between 15 to 90 minutes slower in a typical residential smoldering fire.  Ionization alarms will fail to respond at all in 1 out of 5 fires.

• Installing Photoelectric Smoke Alarms virtually eliminates nuisance tripping (cooking, shower steam, etc.)

• Photoelectric Smoke Alarms will respond in time to provide adequate time to escape life in about 96% of residential fires.

•Roughly 3 people will die tonight in homes with "functional" ionization alarms.
