Electrical Inspection of Existing Dwellings

In the 1990’s, Code Check’s lead author Douglas Hansen wrote what was called “The best book ever written on electrical inspections for home inspectors.” In 2012, with the help of Redwood Kardon and Jim Katen, Douglas completely re-wrote Electrical Inspections of Existing Dwellings. Over twice the original size, it was updated to the 2011 NEC, and is packed with information to help inspectors through all aspects of an electrical inspection. We do have plans to update this book to the 2023 or 2026 code, though we won’t be doing this soon.
The book functions as a training manual with a systematic approach to electrical inspections. It also serves as a guide to locate the specific NEC sections that apply to home inspections, and it includes extensive historical notes on when different items entered the code and how it has changed over the years. The book includes over 900 drawings, tables, and full-color photographs.
eBooks are not instantly available. After purchase, you will receive an email with a link to the Adobe Cloud, with instructions to download it. The email may take a few hours after your purchase.

Deck Construction Based on the 2021 IRC
$58.25 Add to cartDeck Construction Based on the 2021 IRC
For years, the amount of information about decks that was provided in the codes was woefully inadequate. At one time, the American Wood Council filled that gap by providing a publication (DCA-6) that provided prescriptive guidelines for deck construction. The last edition of DCA-6 was based on the 2015 codes. After that, the IRC increased the amount of code material on decks, and substantial amounts of new material were added in the 2021 IRC.
ICC’s book on deck construction fills an important need in the construction industry and inspection world. Written by Glenn Mathewson (of BuildingCodeCollege.com) the book includes all the relevant text on decks from the 2021 International Residential Code as well as commentary on several related aspects of the code. Glenn represented the North American Deck and Railing Assocation (NADRA) in their code initiatives for the 2021 IRC. This book is THE authoritative source of information on decks.
We especially recommend this book to persons who do not own their own copy of the 2021 IRC. It provides clear explanations of several topics that are often related to the addition of a deck, including safety glazing, stairs, landings, clearances to electrical equipment, fire separation distances, permitting requirements, and much more.
